Through this project, participants gain exclusive, \u201cbehind-the-scenes\u201d access to one of Boston\u2019s most interesting and influential businesses, exploring a pressing topic directly affecting both the organization and the broader Greater Boston community. The partnering business or organization changes every year as does the topic of the challenge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Over the course of several months, participants work in cross-sector project teams applying what they are learning in the program and combining their shared expertise to develop solutions to the challenge. This aspect of the curriculum provides real-world, real-time practical experience for the participants outside of their own companies and provides what they often describe as one of the most exciting parts of the program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The <strong>2025\u202fLeadership Challenge<\/strong>\u202fpartnered with\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mbta.com\/\">MBTA<\/a>\u00a0and invited the BFL class of 2025\u00a0to\u00a0solve several challenges\u00a0that fall within the broader challenge of <em>\u201cHelp the T help You\u201d<\/em> \u2013 what the MBTA can do to make the regional business environment stronger, especially after a history of underinvestment, poor management, and a years-long pandemic that resulted in a loss of public trust.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>The four subtopics included:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Develop a Choose Transit marketing and outreach plan<\/strong> to drive ridership numbers back up to pre-pandemic levels and raise public awareness of the T\u2019s efforts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Provide recommendations for how the T can help deliver increasing competitiveness<\/strong> and success within realistic investment constraints.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Develop station\u00a0enhancements<\/strong> to\u00a0improve customer experience in ways that are utilitarian, maintainable, repeatable, and\u00a0locally-sourced.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Create an Inner Harbor Water Service plan<\/strong>\u00a0that highlights benefits to tourism and the economy in addition to providing a safe, alternate commute for locals.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Guided by an expert panel featuring\u202fsenior leadership from the MBTA including <strong>Phil Eng<\/strong>, <em>General Manager<\/em>, <strong>Danny Levy<\/strong>, C<em>hief\u00a0Customer &amp; Employee Experience Officer<\/em>, and <strong>David Perry<\/strong>, <em>Director of Ferry Operations<\/em>,\u00a0participants\u00a0reviewed literature\u00a0and resources on public transportation and the T\u2019s policies and initiatives, engaged in interviews and Q&amp;A discussions, and developed actionable frameworks for\u00a0the four subtopic areas. Teams were tasked with delivering three recommendations grounded in research, professional experience, and collaborative insights, reflecting\u00a0the T\u2019s dedication to its riders and its employees.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This year\u2019s winning team\u00a0excelled with their innovative approach to addressing\u00a0subtopic #1,\u00a0creating two unique marketing campaigns,\u00a0impressing the judges so much that their\u00a0selection\u00a0was unanimous. An example is trying my creative chops at developing a marketing campaign.
